When I started writing in March 2011, I was a new homeowner.  At the advanced age of ninety-five, its run-down state illustrated exhaustion and neglect, and for too long the ability to find resonance in an area of the District many once did, or perhaps continue to, associate with many of these same characteristics. As the neighborhood I now call home changes, I hope I can be a positive presence in discussions about gentrification, economic development, and community.
